Admission Requirements/Application Procedures

Students may enter the Practical Nursing Program in January of each year. Lecture, lab and clinical schedules will vary each term; review the Frequently Asked Questions Web page for schedule details. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for transportation and childcare during clinical hours.

  1. All students entering a healthcare program with a clinical component will be required to complete a criminal background check. Students must be free of offenses, which could potentially disqualify them from working in a healthcare environment (Florida Statute 400.211). Admission into clinicals is at the discretion of the clinical agencies.
  2. Apply to Seminole State College. You must be accepted to Seminole State before you can be accepted to a nursing program. For more information on Seminole State application procedures, visit our Admissions Department home page.
  3. Review the information packet and the Frequently Asked Questions Web page for admissions criteria, course sequences and program requirements. Bring additional questions to the mandatory information session. For immediate concerns, you can e-mail the Nursing Admissions Office or call 407.404.6006.
  4. Attend a mandatory information session. You cannot apply to the Nursing Program without attending an information session. During the information session, you will receive the necessary application package.
  5. Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®) at Seminole State's Assessment and Testing Center (available January 2009). You must earn at least a 65 percent adjusted individual total score on the TEAS® before you can be admitted to a nursing program.

Note: Students who apply to the January 2010 Practical Nursing Program may use NET scores taken between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2008. For more information, review the notice on the Nursing Department home page.

  6. Submit the completed application package to the Admissions Office by the stated deadline. It must be in a sealed envelope. We do not accept nursing application packets by mail. Letters will be sent to all applicants four to six weeks after the deadline date.
