Raider outfielder named FCSAA Player of the Week

James Gandolfo

Seminole State College of Florida outfielder John Gandolfo has been named the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Player of the Week for March 11-17.

The Raiders (20-10, 4-4 Mid-Florida Conference) have entered conference play at a hot offensive pace, owing largely to Gandolfo’s efforts at the plate.

Gandolfo, originally of Franklin Lakes, N.J., came through in a big way last week, batting 9-for-16 with five runs scored and five RBIs over four games. His offensive output included consecutive four-hit efforts against Florida State College (March 15) and St. Johns River State College (March 16). Gandolfo recorded three runs in the win against FSCJ, and in an offensive shootout against SJR State he stood out with four RBIs and two doubles.

On the season, Gandolfo has accumulated a .358 batting average and a .475 on-base percentage to go with his 16 runs, 12 RBIs and nine stolen bases. In conference play, he has improved his batting average and on-base percentage to .483 and .559, respectively.

The Raiders are hitting their stride in the second half of the season as they chase one of two conference bids for the FCSAA State Tournament. They take the field next in a three-game series against College of Central Florida, which includes a home game on Saturday, March 23.

All Raider home events are free to Seminole State students, faculty and staff with a valid Blue & Gold Card, the Seminole State ID. Admission is also available to the general public for a small fee.
