Three outstanding GED students were presented scholarships to continue their education at Seminole State College of Florida during the School of Academic Foundations Graduation on Thursday, April 26.

The winners were:

  • Ali Akbaritorkamani, of Apopka, whose dream is to be a film director. He plans to take art, digital cinema and media courses at Seminole State in the fall.
  • Lauren Prince, of Sanford, who plans to become a pediatric nurse. Lauren will start taking classes toward a nursing degree this fall.
  • Angela Reichardt, of Sanford, who intends to become an obstetrics nurse. She will begin classes toward a nursing degree this fall.

A total of $4,000 was given to the recipients. The scholarships were funded by donations to the Foundation for Seminole State College and allow the students to transition from the GED program to Seminole State’s college-level degree programs.

Seminole State’s GED Prep program is available at sites throughout Seminole County.  Admission is offered year-round to students who are 18 years of age or older. For more information, please call 407.708.2153.
