Softball recognized for academic achievements

NFCA and NJCAA academic honoree Tara Turner

The Seminole State College of Florida softball team had one of the best academic records in the country during the 2010-11 school year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced.

The Raiders, who boasted an overall team GPA of 3.25, ranked 14th in the Junior College category on the association's annual academic awards list.

Several student-athletes also earned individual recognition as NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher. They are:

  • Tara Turner, of Lake Mary
  • Lindsey Nolan, of Mulberry
  • Alexis Schlotter, of Cape Coral
  • Lauren Vinson, of Prince George, Va.

In July, Turner was named an Athlete of Distinction by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Lake Mary High School graduate earned Superior Academic Achievement honors for finishing the year with a 3.8 GPA.

Turner now plays for Rollins College.
