Five outstanding GED students were presented scholarships to continue their education at Seminole State College of Florida during the Secondary Studies for Adults Graduation on Thursday, April 28.

Kristen Moyer, of Apopka, won the R.J. Schmidt and E.S. Douglas Scholarship, a $1,000 award. Moyer will start classes at Seminole State in May. Her goal is to complete the Nursing Program, receive her bachelor’s degree and then continue her education to become a nurse practitioner.

Other winners were:

  • Vanessa Boyer, of Lake Mary, whose goal is to teach science and pursue an advanced degree in molecular biology and microbiology.
  • Bryan Carr, of Oviedo, who plans to complete his studies at Seminole State and then pursue a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering.
  • Bridget Griffith, of Altamonte Springs, whose goal is a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Johnnie Smith Jr., of Altamonte Springs, who plans to take classes in art and music at Seminole State.

More than $4,200 was given to the recipients. The scholarships were funded by donations to the Foundation for Seminole State College and allow the students to transition from the GED program to Seminole State’s college-level degree programs.

Seminole State’s GED Prep program is free for those who qualify. For more information, please call 407.708.2153.
