Seminole State athlete named Pitcher of the Week

Seminole State College sophomore Jacob Newberry has been named this week's Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Newberry received the honor following an impressive season debut against South Florida Community College on Sunday, Feb. 6. The right-hander from Eagle Lake tossed a complete game, striking out 11 batters. He allowed only two hits and no walks, leading the Raiders to a 2-0 shutout over the Panthers.

The Raiders, who have won four consecutive games, will try to extend their win streak and improve to 5-4 on the season against Pasco-Hernando Community College on Friday, Feb. 13. The game begins at 2 p.m. at Jack Pantelias Field on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. For more information, visit the Seminole State baseball home page.
