A.S. Degree, Network Services Technology Tracks

The Network Service Technology degree offers five technical specialization tracks in addition to the core classes. Students pursuing this degree take certain core courses, as well as courses specific to their track.

Network Operating Systems

This specialization provides the necessary coursework to enable the graduate to set up and maintain network operating systems including Windows XP, Windows Server and Unix (Linux). Emphasis will be placed on planning, implementing and maintaining and Windows Server 2003 Active Directory.

Network Security

This specialization provides the necessary coursework to enable the graduate to understand the principles, mechanisms and implementation of network security and data protection. Students gain skills to design and support Network Security Management systems from both an internal and external security reference.

Cisco Network Infrastructure

This specialization provides the necessary coursework to enable the graduate to set up and design internetworking technologies. Emphasis will be placed on internetworking design, router and switch installation, configuration and management. These courses will help prepare students to take the CISCO CCNA and CCNP certification exams.

Wireless Technologies

This specialization provides the necessary coursework to enable the graduate to set up, configure and maintain a wireless network. Areas of study include implementation and management of wireless security in the enterprise by creating layer two and layer three hardware and software. The courses in this specialization will help to prepare for the CWNA and CISCO wireless certification.

Advanced Technologies

This specialization provides the student with the knowledge in the latest technologies of Wireless and IP Telephony. The student will learn how companies are using IP Telephony equipment and software to efficiently upgrade existing telephone systems and will gain an understanding of the architecture of voice communication. Coursework will enable the graduate to set up, configure, design and maintain a wireless network.
