This course is an introduction to network maintenance and repair. Preventative maintenance and diagnosis of the microcomputer will be emphasized along with basic-to-advanced troubleshooting skills. Software and hardware tools will be used and evaluated in class. Preventative maintenance, upgrades, system diagnostics, configuration files, power, memory, drives, input/output (I/O), modems, communications, printing and how these topics interact in the network will be examined. This is an introduction to computer networks and operating systems. Computer components are identified and their functions explained. Operating system functions include command execution, disk drive operations, file maintenance, directory maintenance, batch files and system configurations. Network topics include proper logging in, logging out, network security and network questions and solutions. | CET1675C | Introduction to IP Telephony
This course explains how companies are using IP Telephony equipment and software to efficiently upgrade existing telephone systems. In addition, the course will give the student a fundamental understanding of the architecture of voice communication and how signaling, call quality and public switched telephone network operate in a LAN/WAN networking environment. The use of IP Telephony products will be discussed and how software allows companies to cost-effectively upgrade and eventually replace existing (legacy) telephone systems with more cost-effective and easy-to-use telephone equipment.
