Medical transcriptionists play a crucial role in healthcare because the information they transcribe affects patients' diagnosis and treatment, determines billing and payment from insurance companies, and becomes part of a legal document recording each patient's treatment.

Started in 1988, Seminole State's Health Information Management/Medical Transcription Program is one of the oldest in the nation, and its 37-credit curriculum is among the most rigorous in the country. It is one of only about two dozen programs in the country to be approved by the AHDI-AHIMA Joint Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP).

The MT Program at Seminole State is available in a fully online format and takes five to six semesters to complete. Graduates are awarded an Applied Technology Diploma.

The College has a strong reputation in the medical transcription community, and students often find work in the profession before they complete the program. Many of the program's alumni are prominent professionals who own, manage and supervise transcription services and departments.

Graduates of Seminole State's MT Program are sought after by healthcare organizations and services nationwide. Internships are part of the curriculum, and job-placement assistance is available.
