Healthcare student wins two scholarships
Bethany Briggs Medical Coding Student

(Sept. 15, 2008) An Seminole State healthcare student has won $1,000 in scholarships from the Florida Health Information Management Association (FHIMA).

Bethany Briggs (right), 21, of Oviedo, won the FHIMA Charlotte Stockton Memorial Scholarship in March. In May, she won the Acusis Scholarship, given by the Central Florida Chapter of FHIMA.

Briggs, a graduate of Seminole State's Medical Coding Program, plans to transfer this spring to the University of Central Florida to pursue a bachelor's degree in health information management.

She said she was urged to apply for the scholarship by Professor Christine Tufts-Maher, program manager for Seminole State's Health Information Management-Medical Coding Program. Briggs said she'll use the money to pay for books and other expenses.
