Health Information/Medical Information Coder/Biller Program
The Health Information/Medical Information Coder/Biller Program is a college-credit certificate program, consisting of 34/35 college-credit hours. Medical coding and billing skills are taught manually and enhanced with state-of-the art software applications. The knowledge gained from the Medical Information Coder/Biller: Health Information Management Certificate prepares students to become nationally certified coders. Upon completion of this program, students have the technical skills that are necessary to enter the healthcare delivery market as an entry-level medical coder/biller.
Day, evening and online courses are available, and most major courses are available during evenings and online. Students must have access to an Internet-capable computer while enrolled in the program; access to computers is available on all Seminole State campuses.
The college-credit certificate and A.S. in Health Information Management degree are limited-access programs. Candidates must meet minimum CPT/SAT/ACT scores or provide transcripts with proof of completion of English I (ENC1101), with a grade of "C" or higher, prior to registering for HSC1531, HIM1450/HIM1453 and HIM1000. Additional prerequisite courses are required for the A.S. in Health Information Management Degree Program; review the course sequence details. All students are required to
have a criminal background check prior to internship placement.

*Graduates of the A.S. Health Information Management Program are not eligible for the AHIMA certification exam (RHIT) until the program has received an official letter from CAHIIM, awarding A.S. degree program accreditation.
