Information Literacy and Library Research Instruction

Faculty on the Library Committee recently identified that it should not be the librarian's mission alone to incorporate information literacy into instruction, but should be the responsibility of all faculty to have the same understanding and share these principles with students in their courses. To that end, the committee asked that a tool be created that would provide a uniform understanding of information literacy, and to provide examples of how this can be worked into assignments and the curriculum. Providing information on information literacy also addresses the requirement that faculty add information literacy to their syllabi in compliance with student learning outcomes and the curriculum to SLOs matrix.
An Information Literacy Resources for Faculty guide was developed to meet this need. This is an interactive LibGuide that provides information, standards and helpful tools for curriculum development. Librarians are available to work with faculty further in developing assignments, Web pages and resources that will address information literacy.
