Library Use of Computers and Multimedia

College Regulations on Computer Access

Seminole State provides computer access at various locations on campus. Computer workstations are intended to support and enhance teaching, learning and academic endeavors at the College. We strive to make the best resources available to our students in order to enrich their learning opportunities.

The same moral and ethical standards that apply in the non-computing environment apply in the computing environment. Abuse or misuse of computing services may violate user responsibility, Seminole State policy or state and federal laws, and can result in a minimum of access revocation.

Please refer to Seminole State Policy 1.140: Acceptable Use of College Information Technology for more information.

Media Use in the Library

Non-print materials like DVDs and CDs are available in the circulation area on all campuses for use in the Media Services audio/visual viewing and listening area. Some CDs are also available for loan.

All media materials are selected to support curricula at Seminole State.

Headsets are available for use in the library and can be checked out at the Circulation Desk.

Lab Rules of Conduct

Login IDs for use in general-purpose classrooms and labs are valid for one academic year. Login IDs for the Networking and CAD/Multimedia labs are valid for the current term only. Personal storage folders will be purged at the end of each term.

Networking lab equipment should only be used to complete class assignments. Equipment use after scheduled class times is permitted only when an assistant, lab manager or instructor is present.

A login ID may only be used by the student to whom it is assigned.

Any attempt to circumvent security will result in the submission of a formal statement to the Student Disciplinary Committee.

Computer and Internet activity is monitored. There shall be no:

  • Children in any computer lab.
  • Food or drinks in any computer lab.
  • Installation of software.
  • Downloading of software, unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
  • Alterations to the computer configuration, unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
  • Use of any instant messaging application.
  • Accessing Internet audio or video sites, unless otherwise directed by the instructor.
  • Viewing non-class-related materials on the Internet.
  • Wireless communications in the classroom. If you bring a cell phone or beeper into the classroom, you must set it to silent mode. All calls must be taken or made outside the classroom or lab.

Printing Restrictions

  • You may only print class-related materials or assignments. An assignment is defined as any original material that an instructor requires the individual student to turn in for a grade (one copy permitted).
  • The printing of personal items (letters, resumes, etc.) is prohibited.
  • The printing of CISCO curricula or test questions is prohibited. Visit the CISCO Networking Academy for information on CISCO's use policy.

Policy Violation Consequences

First-time violators will receive a warning and a review of the policy in question.

After a second violation, a formal statement will be submitted to the Student Disciplinary Committee. Network access will be revoked until the committee can take appropriate action. The Student Disciplinary Committee will automatically be notified if students share their login information.

Please refer to the Seminole State Student Handbook for more information.
