Mission and Vision Statements

Mission

The mission of the Seminole State College Library is to be a partner in the educational process by:

  • Providing the appropriate academic support for students, faculty and staff
  • Interacting with and engaging users in the research process
  • Encouraging lifelong learning

The library supports Seminole State's mission and goals, as well as its core values of respect, integrity, excellence, knowledge and academic freedom. The library will promote each value in the following ways:

  • Respect
  1. Demonstrate collegiality and effective communication within the library and throughout the College.
  2. Foster a positive work environment that advocates staff empowerment and development, is free from bias, and emphasizes dignity and mutual respect. 
  • Integrity
  1. Incorporate the American Library Association's (ALA) intellectual freedom statements and use them as guidelines for library practice and conduct.
  2. Carry out all departmental business with Seminole State's mission, vision, policies and procedures in mind. 
  • Excellence
  1. Make informed and innovative use of information and technology to teach, learn and conduct research.
  2. Provide quality services to accommodate users' individual needs.
  3. Form strategic partnerships to provide a range of services for students, faculty and staff.
  4. Provide reference and instructional services and resources to promote student success.   
  • Knowledge
  1. Promote collaboration between faculty members to develop and enable students' lifelong critical-thinking and information-literacy-learning skills.
  2. Encourage faculty involvement and staff participation to establish and enhance the library's collections and services.
  3. Provide continuing education opportunities for library staff members.  
  • Academic Freedom
  1. Provide quality services to accommodate users' individual needs.
  2. Provide equal and seamless access to resources in a variety of formats.
  3. Promote an environment of open inquiry and intellectual freedom.

Vision

The vision of the Seminole State College Library is consistent with that of the College: to be renowned for its commitment to learning and its focus on individual student success. The library will support teaching and learning and remain committed to developing an information-literate community, where students can identify, access, evaluate, use and understand information. The library is committed to providing excellent service, utilizing new technologies, and maintaining an environment of open inquiry and intellectual freedom.
