PLA 2800 Family Law

Family Law involves much more than just the dissolution of marriage. Using a practical, skills-oriented, in-depth approach, this course covers the entire gamut of family-law issues, ranging from marriage and divorce law to juvenile law.

With this class, students will develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. They will learn to draft a variety of documents, including but not limited to: petitions for the dissolution of marriage; prenuptial agreements; answers and waivers; financial documentation; marital settlement agreements; and final judgments.

Family Law is offered during the Fall and Spring terms. The fall class will be held on Thursday evenings from 6-8:45 p.m. on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, and the spring section will be offered during the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

During the Fall Term, one qualifying student may be offered a special family law internship in connection with the Legal Studies Program's Family Law Institute. Details about this opportunity will be announced in class.

Family Law is a core required course and is classified as intermediate in terms of demand placed on students. There are no prerequisites for this course, nor does it serve as a prerequisite for any other course.
