Application Checklist for English Language Institute Students

The following documents are required to complete your application to Seminole State College:

• Completed International Student Form
• International processing fee of 50 United States dollars (Overseas applicants must use an international money order.)
• Clear photo copy of passport identification page with current expiration date
• Formal color photograph of student (passport size only)
• Financial Support Documents:

  All documents must be written in English. (An official translation conducted in the applicant's home country or in the United States is acceptable.) A translator/interpreter seal or stamp is required, and only original documents will be accepted (no facsimiles or photo copies).

  • Item A: Current Bank Letter - The letter must be on official bank letterhead, with an original stamp or seal, and an official signature from a bank representative. It must indicate when the account was opened, the type of account, and the average and current balance in U.S. dollars. This document cannot be more than six months old.
  • Item B: Affidavit of Support with Notarization Stamp - It is possible to have more than one sponsor. The sponsor(s) do not have to reside in the United States, nor do they have to be family relatives.
  • Item C: Employment Verification Letter - This letter must be on business stationery and include an original seal or stamp as well as an official signature from the company or institution. It must state the sponsor's job title, annual or monthly salary (if paid on hourly basis, how much he/she makes per hour and how many hours he/she works per week), and the length of time employed with the company.
  • Item D: Scholarship Letter - The scholarship letter must be printed on business or government stationery and indicate the dollar amount of the award and what the award covers.

Please note:

• If the student is acting as his/her own sponsor, only Item A is required.
• If the student has one or more sponsors, each sponsor must provide items A, B and C (as supplement, if needed).
• Item D is for scholarships only. Item B is also sometimes required, depending on the source of the scholarship.

• For Transfer Students only:
  • Completed Seminole State International Student Transfer-In Form
  • Photo copy of previous SEVIS I-20 (two sides), I-94 card and valid passport
    

Important: According to the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), an International Student must study full time. For Seminole State's English Language Institute, full-time is defined as 18-20 hours per week (schedule varies). Summer is considered a "break" term.

Please note: We strongly encourage you to obtain adequate health insurance for your stay in the United States. Bills for medical services in this country can cost hundreds, thousands, and even tens of thousands of dollars.
