Faculty Spotlight: Lisa Stokes

Lisa StokesDr. Lisa Stokes has been a humanities professor at Seminole State College since 1983. She is also an internationally known scholar of Hong Kong Cinema. Her book publications include:

  • Historical Dictionary of Hong Kong Cinema. Scarecrow Press. 2007.
  • City on Fire: Hong Kong Cinema, Verso Press, 1999 (With Seminole State Professor Michael Hoover). Second edition 2001.
  • He's a Woman, She's a Man. University of Hong Kong Press. Forthcoming.

Dr. Stokes has written numerous journal articles and delivered many conference presentations on Hong Kong Cinema. In addition, she was selected to speak at the Asian Cinema Studies Conference, held at Beijing University and Shanghai University in 2005.

At Seminole State College, Dr. Stokes has taught Renaissance and Baroque, 18th/19th Century European, 20th/21st Century Humanities and Technology, and Latin American Humanities. She also has taught World Cinema and The Art of Film, and English Composition: Writing About Literature and Contemporary Latin American Fiction.
