Frequently Asked Questions
Program Questions
What is a Bachelor of Applied Science degree?
Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) programs provide degree completion opportunities for students from a variety of educational backgrounds, but primarily those with A.S. degrees or the equivalent. B.A.S. programs typically include capstone experiences that provide opportunities for students to demonstrate the application of acquired knowledge, skills and competencies.
Will I be able to obtain my professional license with this degree?
Yes. Seminole State's interior design programs were (re)approved by the Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design in January 2009. Upon completion of the degree and the requisite work experience, students may sit for examination and licensure.
I am a high school senior interested in Seminole State's new B.A.S. degree in Interior Design. What should I do first?
Apply to the College and declare the A.S. degree in Interior Design as your educational goal. Once you complete this A.S. degree program, you can apply for entrance and then easily transition into the Bachelor of Applied Science in Interior Design.
I've already earned my A.S. in Interior Design. How do I enter Seminole State's B.A.S. program?
If you've already earned your A.S. in Interior Design from a Florida community or state college and have a minimum 2.5 GPA, then apply directly to Seminole State's B.A.S. program. If your degree was earned outside of Florida's state college system, please call 407.708.4400 or 407.708.4514 to speak with an advisor about which of your courses will transfer and what prerequisites you may need to take.
I have an associate or bachelor's degree in another field. How many of my current credits can be used toward this degree?
Credit transfer, whether from another institution or from another Seminole State program, will be evaluated on an individual basis. All credits from a previously earned associate or bachelor's degree will be evaluated and applied as appropriate toward the bachelor's degree program. A Seminole State advisor can assist you in identifying which courses are applicable for transfer.
How many of the degree credit hours must I take at Seminole State?
Students must take a minimum of 30 credits of the degree requirements at Seminole State. In addition, 39 credits of the upper-division courses must be earned at Seminole State.
Can I attend classes as either a part-time or full-time student?
Yes, students may attend classes part time or full time.
What about a foreign language requirement?
The standard Florida foreign language requirement must be met for graduation. Students must show a modern language proficiency equivalent to two years in high school or eight college credits in a single language. A standardized examination for modern language may be used to meet the requirement.
When do classes start?
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Interior Design Program will begin in the Spring Term of 2010, with classes starting on Jan. 11, 2010.
