Professional Development Credits

Because seeking information about new ideas in teaching and maintaining current knowledge in one's field are important facets of quality teaching and administration, the College requires the following:

  1. Administrative Personnel

    1. During each period of five fiscal years, the full-time administrator shall successfully complete six semester hours or nine quarter hours of college credit in an area related to the position, or
    2. Shall complete a minimum of 180 clock hours of related professional development.
      Professional Development (non-credit) learning activities may include:

      1. Attendance at conferences, workshops or seminars directly related to assigned responsibilities
      2. Active performance at workshops, conferences or seminars (speaker, presenter, participant, etc.)
      3. Professional travel (subject to appropriate College rules and in accordance with FAC rules)
      4. Short courses sponsored by industry or continuing education
      5. Professional publications
      6. Service on boards of national and state associates and as an officer of professional associations
      7. Research, development and evaluation approved by the individual's supervisor

    In order to receive credit, all such work must have the prior approval of the appropriate supervisor.

    A combination of semester hours and related professional development may be used to satisfy the requirement for maintenance of qualifications. Thirty clock hours of professional development activity will be considered to be equivalent to one semester hour for this purpose.

2. Instructional Personnel

  1. During each period of five fiscal years, full-time College instructional personnel, librarians and counselors shall successfully complete six semester hours or nine quarter hours of college credit in an area related to the position, or
  2. Shall complete a minimum of 180 clock hours of related professional development. Professional development (non-credit) learning activities are defined under 6Hx25A-3.0300 (1) (b) and are applicable to instructional personnel. In order to receive credit, all such work must have the prior approval of the appropriate supervisor.
  3. A combination of semester hours and related professional development may be used to satisfy the requirement for maintenance of qualifications. Thirty clock hours of professional development activity will be considered to be equivalent to one semester hour for this purpose.
  4. Part-time instructors are expected to participate in professional development activities.
  5. For persons in the employ of the College in 1980-81, the requirement for professional development and maintenance of qualification must be met prior to June 31, 1986, or prior to the expiration date of a valid Florida certificate, whichever is later.
  6. The institution may grant financial support for course work, organized seminars, workshops, travel and other activities in order to encourage professional development.
