For All Employees
Appraisal Writing for Employees: Non-instructional full-time and regular part-time employees have the opportunity to provide their supervisor's with specific information about their work performance. This course reviews how to create, write, edit, save and submit an online Self-Appraisal Information Form and provides insight as to how to write a good self-appraisal. The target audience for this course is all full-time and regular part-time non-instructional employees.
Campus Safety for Employees: Although this training session will focus on a hypothetical active shooter situation -- where an unknown intruder is in the process of firing shots and threatening employees and students -- the lessons from this session will be applicable to any emergency situation on any College site. Each training session will include an instructional video presented by the Center for Personal Protection and Safety, and participants will interact with a panel of resources including local law enforcement and Seminole State representatives from these departments: Safety and Security, Student Judicial, Emergency Response Team, Human Resources, Legal and others. This program is required for all full- and part-time employees.
College Knowledge: This interactive information program introduces participants to all the major departments and functions of Seminole State College as well as some interesting facts and history. The target audience for this program is any employee with their supervisor's approval.

That's why our diversity initiative is as important at the College as it is in our community. This course, sponsored by our Diversity and Inclusion Office, is designed to pave the way toward open communication by initiating conversation and influencing behavior. DIVERSITY does MATTER. Harassment Prevention for Employees: Harassment of any kind is not tolerated at Seminole State. This course provides the skills to recognize and prevent harassment in the workplace. Topics include prevention, protocols and procedures, responding effectively, reporting, and understanding the issues and laws. This is a required course for all full- and part-time employees.
New Employee Orientation – College Orientation and Benefits: This full day program is for all new full-time and regular part-time employees. Topics includes an introduction to the College's history and programs, virtual video tours of campuses, a live tour of the Sanford/Lake Mary campus, review of key policies and procedures, new employee quick start checklist, key payroll policies, and benefits selection. Lunch is included. This program is required for all full-time and regular part-time employees.
New Employee Orientation - Benefits Only: This program provides an overview of benefits for full-time and regular part-time employees. Topics include: the Florida Retirement System's Pension and Investment Plans, the Community College Optional Retirement Plan, Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, and Vision Insurance Plan Options. Regular part-time employees are eligible for the FRS Pension and Investment plan as well as certain retirement savings plans such as 403(b). Note: If you attend the full day program (College Orientation and Benefits), you do not need to attend this program.
Workplace Safety: This course, sponsored by our Campus Safety and Security Department, covers the key factors required to make this a safe place to work and learn. Topics include: how to respond to an electrical fire, how to react to someone experiencing a heart attack, dealing with threatening situations, and many other scenarios. The target audience for this program is any employee with supervisor's approval.
Appraisal Writing for Supervisors: One of the most important responsibilities supervisors have is writing annual appraisals and conducting performance evaluation meetings. This course reviews how to create, write, edit, save, and submit an online Annual Employee Appraisal of Record and provides insight as to how to write a good appraisal and hold an effective appraisal review meeting. Supervisors of non-instructional full-time and regular part-time employees are encouraged to attend this course.
Best Hiring Practices: Finding the right person for the job is one of the most important responsibilities of a supervisor. This course addresses work process and job analysis, job descriptions, resume evaluation, telephone and in-person interviewing, and evaluating the new hire. The target audience for this course is supervisors but any employee may attend with their supervisor's approval.
Comp/Over Time & Leave Time Mgmt: In this interactive course, participants learn the policies and procedures behind compensatory time and overtime pay as well as how to manage the many leave time categories provided by the College. Topics include: calculating comp/overtime pay, core hours and break times, vacation and sick leave, and Family Medical Leave. The target audience for this course is supervisors but any employee may attend with their supervisor's approval.

Topics include: prevention, designing protocols and procedures, responding effectively, intervention, reporting, and understanding the issues and laws. This is a required course for all supervisors.
Performance Management 1: Part one of our Performance Management Model focuses on a standard, measurable and repeatable process to plan the work, communicate work progress, and document work performance. Participants learn how to create SMART objectives, create a communication plan, use common communication methods, and use the College's standard performance documentation. Supervisors are encouraged to attend this course and any employee may attend with their supervisor's approval.
Performance Management 2: Part two or our Performance Management Model covers how to evaluate employee performance including writing employee appraisals and conducting performance evaluation meetings. Participants learn the key reasons why we evaluate employee performance, the requirements of the College Appraisal Procedure 2.1501, how to use our online appraisal system (non-instructional), and how to avoid the common errors people make when writing appraisals. Supervisors are encouraged to attend this course and any employee may attend with their supervisor's approval.
Performance Management 3: Part three of our Performance Management Model covers: how to identify the root cause of a performance problem, and how to conduct a positive direction discussion to address employee performance problems. Supervisors are encouraged to attend this course and any employee full-time and regular part-time employee may attend with their supervisor's approval.
Tips for Supervisory Success Forum: Supervisors play an important role as agents of the College. This program covers addressing employee performance, discrimination and harassment, and proper use of the College's technology resources. The target audience for this course is supervisors.
For Adjunct Faculty
HR Education Program for Adjunct Faculty: Adjunct faculty members play key roles at Seminole State College. This program provides important information on Student Disabilities, Campus Safety and Security, as well as the state-required Harassment Prevention. Adjuncts are compensated for attending and must “recertify” every five years. The target audience for this course is adjunct faculty members. Note: Adjuncts must attend this course during a term when they are actively teaching.
