The Carpenter performs skilled trades work at the journeyman level maintaining and repairing College buildings, locks and hardware. This position reports to the Facility Trades Manager.

1. Installs and repairs doors, thresholds, windows, locks, hardware, etc.; makes keys and maintains key databases
2. Repairs and installs furniture.
3. Performs painting of walls, wall repair, and cove bases.
4. Repairs college material carts and wall and floor fire penetrations, installs fire extinguishers.
5. Maintains and makes minor repairs to: roofing systems; sidewalks; glass, plastic and wood panels; ceiling systems; window coverings; floor coverings.
6. Periodically inspects handrails and portable structures for structural safety; annually inspects fire door, fire dampers.

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Skilled experience in the carpentry & locksmith trades.

1. Knowledge of locksmith/carpentry materials and tools, both power and manual.
2. Judgment and decision-making skills regarding complex maintenance and repair work.
3. Requires walking and standing for long periods of time; working in enclosed spaces and the ability to climb ladders.
4. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5. Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted
7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with others and provide exceptional customer service.

Per College Policy 1.020 and 2.020, and College Procedure 2.0350:
1. Final hire/appointment of a candidate offered employment in this position is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a job-related physical ability assessment.
2. Current employees may be referred for a job-related physical ability assessment or reassessment upon their supervisor’s recommendation and subsequent approval by the Office of Human Resources, or upon the recommendation of the Office of Human Resources.

3. Must wear protective gear as needed.
