Benefits and Services

A variety of benefits and services are available to retirees of Seminole State College...

Exercise Facilities

During posted hours, you may access the weight/exercise room and tennis courts on a space-available basis. For safety reasons, a College employee will be on the premises during these scheduled periods. You must present your Seminole State ID card and another photo ID to gain admittance.

Theatre Admission

Retirees are eligible for the same discounts on tickets and subscriptions to Seminole State student productions as current College employees. The Orlando Theater Project (OTP) offers a $3 discount off the ticket price to all seniors (age 55 and above).

Tuition Waivers

Residents of the state of Florida who are 60 years of age and older will be given a waiver of matriculation, tuition and late registration fees when registering for one college-credit class on a space-available basis. To take advantage of this opportunity, you must register after the regular registration period. Courses may be taken for credit or audited. Courses that have selective admissions criteria or courses offered through the vocational non-credit, leisure time, and community service programs are not included under this program. Laboratory fees are not waived.

Tuition Reimbursement for Spouses and Dependents

The spouse and dependent(s) of an eligible, retired Seminole State employee may be entitled to a refund of approved fees for post-secondary education credit courses taken at the College for a total of 60 semester hours or their equivalent. To be eligible, a retiree must have completed 10 years of continuous, full-time employment at Seminole State immediately prior to retirement from the College. He or she must also currently receive retirement benefits through a Seminole State retirement plan.

Insurance

You and your qualified dependents may participate in several Seminole State insurance programs. Medical, dental, supplemental life and vision insurance are available to eligible retirees. You must pay the premium costs for the benefits you elect.

Service Pins

As a Seminole State retiree, you will be awarded a special retiree service pin.

E-Mail and Postal Mail

After you retire from Seminole State, you may continue to use your department e-mail and postal mail addresses for professional purposes.

Cards and Correspondence

You may use Seminole State stationery for professional correspondence after you retire. Upon request, Seminole State business cards with your name and "your current title — retired" will be prepared for your use.

Parking

You may obtain a Seminole State parking decal, which grants you free access to all faculty/staff parking areas around campus.

Emergency Shelter

Retired employees of the College and their dependents are eligible to use building G (known as the Fine Arts Building) as an emergency shelter. The building has the capacity to shelter 150 individuals. In the event the shelter needs to be opened, Seminole County Emergency Management will promptly contact the College's representative. If using the shelter, you will need to bring your own subsistence items.
