Student Spotlight: GrantHometown: Longwood, FL Notable Accomplishments/Awards: I was awarded the Governor's Point of Light Award which recognizes Florida residents for their community service efforts. Also, during my time as a dual-enrolled student, I received the Disney Dreamer and Doer Award. Why did you choose Seminole State? I started at Seminole State as a dual enrolled student taking both high school and college credit classes during my senior year of high school. When it was time to become a full-time college student, I chose Seminole State because I already loved it here. I love the campus, being close to home, and the faculty. It's just a good place and environment for learning. How would you describe your educational experience at Seminole State? The education you receive is top quality. I will be transferring to a four year university and I doubt that the quality of my education at that university will be any better than the education I received at Seminole State. What are your post-Seminole State/career plans? I will be attending Brigham Young University in Utah after I complete a two-year mission for my church. After I receive my B.S. in Music from BYU I would like to go to medical school and study to become a family doctor. How would you describe your "college" experience at Seminole State? The people at Seminole State are wonderful, especially the faculty and staff. I'm always comfortable and at home when I am there. Also, since I am living at home there is a lot less stress and more study time. What are your activities and hobbies? I am a musician. I sing, play piano and guitar, and I've been beat boxing for about six years. I also enjoy sound engineering and recording, graphic arts and Web design. I am also very involved with church duties and activities. How has your experience at Seminole State impacted your life? I am stronger than when I started. Throughout high school I thought I would be attending an out-of-state school and was a little scared of leaving home and fending for myself. I wanted to do well, but I needed to learn how college worked. That is what I got at Seminole State. Now, I can go to a larger institution and feel comfortable and prepared. I also feel more prepared to tackle life in general. Why would you recommend Seminole State to a potential student? For all the reasons I have stated above. The campuses are clean and up-to-date. The people are friendly and helpful. The education is top notch. Lastly, you can't beat the price. I love it! |
