Why do you enjoy teaching at Seminole State?
Prior to coming to Seminole State, I taught at four other universities: Indiana University, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Howard University and Idaho State University. There were three things strongly emphasized: teaching, community involvement and scholarly activities. At Seminole State, the emphasis is definitely on teaching. Being able to place all of my attention on the students is a blessing.
What is your personal educational philosophy?
Do whatever it takes to keep the juices flowing in the students. They rise to the challenges placed before them. Set the boundaries and then let the students soar.
What would most people be surprised to learn about you?
For many years, I was the physical therapist working behind the scenes at the International Ballet Competition. Because of my love of dance, I was also a physical therapist consultant for Ringling Brothers Circus dealing with the aerial dancers and clowns who had a variety of leg, foot and ankle injuries.
What has been your most significant contribution to Seminole State?
Guiding the PTA students as they implemented a Health and Relaxation Clinic for the Seminole State faculty and staff. This has been the most powerful thing I've done here! We offer back and neck massages for a fee to Seminole State's employees. The response has been overwhelming whenever we have scheduled the few days. Besides the employees benefiting from our efforts to reduce their muscular tension, my students and I benefit by getting to know more people on campus.
What are your hobbies or special interests?
I love singing with my husband and traveling within North America.
Why would you recommend Seminole State to a potential student?
I have never met faculty members who are more committed to the success of their students. The Seminole State faculty is exemplary!!!
