Previous Grant Training OpportunitiesNov. 14, 2008: Fall 2008 Grant Development Workshop"Case Studies from SCC Faculty and Staff" featured testimonials and advice from employees who have successfully applied for and received grants in the past. Discussion topics included locating funding opportunities, developing a winning proposal and working with grants development and management to accomplish your goals. Feb. 1, 2008: Improving Grants Management for Successful Project ImplementationExternal grant funding (state, federal and private foundations) provides significant resources, used to provide important services for our students and for the community at-large. Recipients of grant funds are feeling increased pressure to achieve project goals and be held accountable for every project dollar spent. State and federal funding agencies now demand high thresholds of accountability in every aspect of grant management. The purpose of this workshop is to provide project directors and administrators with a clear understanding of their individual responsibilities, as viewed by funding agencies, as well as to explore the nuts and bolts of internal controls as they pertain to audit readiness. Seminar Facilitator:Toni DeMaglio, the grant compliance officer at Valencia Community College, works closely with project directors/administrators and the finance office to bridge the gap between the activities and financial aspects of project development and management. Her pervious grants management experience includes serving as a project director for federal, state and private grants. She has completed certificate training in grants management. Part II:Faculty and staff members will be guided through the grant proposal development process, including how to identify funding opportunities and develop a mission statement, as well as project goals and objectives. March 2006: Do the Right Thing, So Your Grants Don't Have to be Risky BusinessIncubating an idea and developing a project into a funding proposal is only one aspect of the entire grant implementation process; the management of the grant is just as important. Compliance issues, the fast-changing accountability structure and matters related to systematizing and institutionalizing the post-award management process was the focus of this workshop. Administrative rules and regulations from the Office of Management and Budget circulars and various federal and state agencies' regulations and program rules were introduced and discussed as well. Workshop Facilitator:Elizabeth Gombash, assistant vice president, resource development, at Valencia Community College, has extensive experience working with federal grant agencies and an excellent reputation for consulting with institutions of higher education in the grants management process. |
