Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I apply for a scholarship?A: Scholarship selection is done primarily through the Admissions Office. In order to apply for a scholarship, you must print out a Seminole State Scholarship Application form. You will only need to fill this out once. Submit the form and any other requested materials to Eve Hudson in the Admissions Office. Other scholarships may be awarded through a specific program, such as nursing or automotive trades. You can contact the department chairs or visit the Scholarship Application Procedures page for further information. Q: How can I establish a scholarship?A: Scholarships are established at two different levels: endowed and non-endowed.
Once you have chosen a commitment level, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be created using your ideal selection criteria. You may contact Lisa Massing, Scholarship and Proposal Coordinator with any questions. Please visit the Establishing a Scholarship page for further information. Q: What is the Presidents' Club? How can I join?A: The Presidents' Club is a society created for those who are interested in donating to Seminole State College on an annual basis. The minimum yearly unrestricted donation is $1,000. The club offers many benefits including seasonal Presidents' Club newsletters, invitations to VIP events at the College, quarterly Networking and News Breakfasts and an invitation to the annual Presidents' Club Dinner. Please visit the Presidents' Club page for more information on how to join, news and other updates. Additional Presidents' Club questions can be forwarded to Sarah Balas, Assistant Director of Development. Q: What is a Mini-Grant?A: Mini-grants are awards given to faculty and staff members for projects requiring external funding not available within a departmental budget. Awards typically range from $1,500 to $2,000. Recipients are selected by a committee comprised of Foundation Board Members. Please visit the Mini-Grants page for further information. Q: What is an Endowed Teaching Chair?A: Endowed Teaching Chairs are awards granted to Seminole State faculty to acknowledge the invaluable contributions they make to Seminole State College as outstanding educators. Applicants are nominated by their fellow faculty and staff members. A committee comprised of Seminole State faculty and staff gathers and reviews a wide array of information about each nominee. Classroom visits to observe teaching style are also arranged. A committee of members from the Foundation Board of Directors reviews the nominations and interviews the finalists forwarded to them a Seminole State selection committee. Honorees receive a cash award. Please visit the Endowed Teaching Chair page for further information. Q: When can I apply for a Mini-Grant or an Endowed Teaching Chair?A: Both of these awards follow a specific application process and are not available year-round. Mini-grants generally are open for applications during the Fall semester around October. The amount awarded fluctuates annually depending upon the SCC Foundation's annual budget. Endowed Teaching Chairs are open for nominations at the start of the Spring semester, in January. The number of awards offered also fluctuates annually. All faculty and staff with a College e-mail address receive e-mail notifications for application dates for both awards. Notifications will also be posted on the Foundation Web site. Q: If I can only donate a small amount, what are my options?A: The SCC Foundation does not seek large financial gifts only. Personal donations of all sizes form the basis of how we support the College. A check or credit card payment in any amount is always welcome and will be put to great use in support of our students and faculty. Another avenue of giving is the Timeless Tribute, which is a gift to the College in honor of a person of your choosing. Your gift can be donated to the College's area of greatest need, or to a specific program or scholarship of your choice. Please visit the Timeless Tributes page for more information. Q: Can I put Seminole State College in my will?A: This option is available through The Weldon Society. This society consists of alumni, current and former faculty and staff, parents of students, and other friends of Seminole State College who have indicated an end-of-life gift to the SCC Foundation from their estate, usually in the form of a bequest or trust.
