Pump Operator Post-Secondary Adult Vocational Certificate

This program provides a foundation of theoretical knowledge in order to understand the principles of the use of water in fire protection and to apply hydraulic principles to analyze and to solve water supply problems. The curriculum covers pump theory, pump rating, pressure and vacuum gauges. Laws, rules and driving techniques for emergency vehicles will be covered. There will be a practical portion of the course that includes fire ground operations utilizing hand line and master fire streams, tandem pumping, drafting and relays. Students will participate in a series of driving maneuvers aimed specifically at the safe operation of various firefighting apparatus. After successful completion of the program, the student will be eligible to take the State Pump Operator certification exam through the Bureau of Fire Standards.
