Fire Simulation Lab

Part of more than $20 million Seminole State College is investing in its public safety programs and the first facility of its kind in Seminole County, Seminole State's $2 million Fire Simulation Lab allows fire science students and area firefighters to perform live fire training under controlled conditions.

Fire science students who train at this hands-on instructional resource each have the same experience because the Lab was designed to produce duplicable fire scenarios.

Located on the west side of Seminole State's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus, the lab opened in Sept. 2008 and is actually two projects in one: the College's remodeled Burn Building and a new fire training lab.

The Burn Building was first built in 1978 and was remodeled to comply with current state requirements.

The new two-story training lab, features three rooms that were built with reinforced concrete and utilize propane, which is cleaner and makes the blazes controllable, and steel burners to create a realistic but safe environment for training firefighters. Two of the rooms - a kitchen and a bedroom - use props to re-create some of the challenges that a firefighter might face when responding to a home fire.
