Fast Track Programs

Home Health Aide

Home Health AideIn response to high demand within the healthcare industry, Seminole State College offers a Home Health Aide Vocational Certificate that consists of these two courses:

HSC 0003 Basic Healthcare Worker: 90 hours
HCP 0330 Home Health Aide: 75 hours

This 165-hour program, which meets the Florida Department of Health requirements, is available on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. Students will attend 12 hours per week Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The program can be completed in approximately 15 weeks.

HSC 1000, Introduction to Health Care, may substitute for HSC 0003 Basic Healthcare Worker with department approval.

Students who finish the program will receive a Certificate of Program Completion.

 

Career Opportunities

Home health aides work in a variety of settings. Most work in a client’s home; others work in small group homes or larger care communities.

Employment of home health aides is expected to grow by 69 percent from 2010 to 2020, much faster than the average for all occupations. Workforce Central Florida has listed the occupation as one of the five fastest-growing occupations in Central Florida.

The majority of employers in the healthcare industry require a background check. If the background check reveals any issues, employment may be denied. Speak with a program advisor if you have any questions.

To be considered for the Home Health Aide Vocational Certificate Program, students must:

A high school diploma or equivalency is not required for program entry.

Costs

The program costs approximately $575. Federal financial aid is not available. However, Seminole State does offer fee waivers and scholarships for qualified students. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify.
