File Servers

Seminole State College operates multiple file servers—high-end networking computers with large amounts disk space—that assist its instructional and administrative areas by enabling its workstations to share in network resources collegewide, such as files, printers and storage. The network provides security by ensuring that users only access those resources that they have been granted access to.

Security

Seminole State's Computing and Telecommunication Services Department ensures network security by regulating access to the College's network system, applications and other network resources. Access to the network system is controlled by the use of personal login IDs and passwords. Once an individual is given an ID and password, that person may access the network, where further security is provided by regulating what resources the individual may access. For example, "individual X" is now on the network but cannot print to a certain printer. This access is given on an case-by-case basis as is all network resource privileges, such as e-mail and other PC applications.

Acquiring System and Application Access

Seminole State employees may acquire system and application access by completing the CTS User Access Request Form, which must be signed by the appropriate department head, dean, director or vice president and submitted to CTS. When submitting the request for applications that require application access control, such as accounting, the Division of Community Colleges, electronic transcripts, human resources, etc., include a list of components and/or screens you wish to use for each application.
