The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJ-BAT)

The Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test is the mandatory entrance exam for Seminole State's Corrections and Law Enforcement Academy. The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, designed to measure students' visual, reasoning, memorization and language skills (corrections and law enforcement versions only).

Students have 2.5 hours to complete the CJ-BAT and are given their scores at the conclusion of testing.  

The fee to take the CJ-BAT is $40. A study guide, I/O Solutions, is available at the Seminole State Bookstore.

Please note:

  • The computer-based CJ-BAT is offered on a walk-in basis in Room A107 on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus. The test is also available at the Altamonte Springs and Oviedo campuses.
  • Students must score a 72 percent or higher before being admitted into the Corrections Academy. 
  • Students must score a 79 percent or higher before being admitted into the Law Enforcement Academy.

Note: Seminole State is closed on Fridays during the Summer Term.
