Billy R. Lee Jr., Director of the Center for Public SafetyBilly Lee, a 27-year law enforcement veteran of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, became director of the Center of Public Safety in 2009. He started his law enforcement career after completing the Law Enforcement Academy at Seminole State College in 1981. Prior to becoming director, he served as an adjunct instructor for 19 years, teaching in the areas of firearms and defensive tactics, as well as specialized and advanced training. During Lee's career at the sheriff's office, he served in the following areas: patrol, property investigations and major case investigations. He also was a Task Force Agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration's Orlando Resident Office. He helped develop and became a supervisor in the Seminole Neighborhood Policing program established by the sheriff's office. Lee also served as a captain, managing the sheriff's office in the Diversified Investigations Division and Seminole Neighborhood Policing. He completed his career as the captain of the Special Operations Division, managing the Aviation, Range and Water, and Canine units. For 24 years, Lee also served as a member of the Seminole County Special Weapons and Tactics Team, a multijurisdictional tactical team. During 11 of those years, he was commander of the SWAT and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team. Lee holds an Associate in Science degree from Seminole State College. He received his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy. |
