Certificate Programs

Class Fees and Dates

The Law Enforcement and Corrections academies are limited-access programs. Students must complete the Seminole State Admissions application process as well as the Criminal Justice Institute application and interview process before gaining acceptance into either program.

To be eligible for in-state tuition and fees, applicants must be residents of the state of Florida for at least 12 months prior to registration. Contact Seminole State's Admissions Office for details.

Daytime Law Enforcement Academy

  • The day program is 18-20 weeks long (770 hours)
  • Hours: Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Times may vary according to instructional guidelines.
2013 Day Academy Schedule
  • February - July 2013 (application deadline: Dec. 14, 2012). Note: This term is full, and new applicants will be admitted via waiting list only.
  • September 2013 - May 2014 (application deadline: July 25)

Note: We have moved the start date of the daytime program to begin in September rather than June. 

Nighttime Law Enforcement Academy

  • The night program is 29-31 weeks long (770 hours)
  • Hours:  Monday-Thursday, from 4:45 p.m. -10 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Times may vary according to instructional guidelines.
2013 Night Academy Schedule
  • January - June 2013 (application deadline: Nov. 26, 2012). Note: This term is full, and new applicants will be admitted via waiting list only.
  • August 2013 - May 2014  (application deadline: June 28)

Note: We have moved the start date of the nighttime program to begin in August rather than May.

Applicants must attend an information session and take the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) and attend an information session before receiving a Law Enforcement Academy application. The interview and selection process for the day and night programs takes place approximately four to six weeks before the first day of classes. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified recruits.

Approximate Fees* (Day and Night Programs)
  • Application Process: $150 + cost of physical (This is an accumulation of costs; there is no application fee for this program.)
  • Tuition/Lab Fee (in-state residents): $2,795
  • Tuition/Lab Fee (out-of-state residents): $8,020
  • Uniforms: $450
  • Books: $100

* Fees are subject to change. Financial aid is available to Law Enforcement Academy students who qualify.

Corrections Academy

  • The Corrections Academy is approximately 16 weeks long (420 hours).
  • Times may vary according to instructional guidelines.
2013 Schedule
  • April 3-Aug. 5, 2013 (application deadline: March 1)
  • Monday-Friday, 5-10 p.m.

Please note: A minimum of 20 students is required for this program.

Crossover Academy: Corrections to Law Enforcement

Training for certified FDLE corrections officers who want to become certified as Law Enforcement officers.

Auxiliary Law Enforcement Academy

The Auxiliary Law Enforcement Academy takes place on Seminole State's Sanford/Lake Mary Campus.

  • Next Academy: Date to be determined

Please note: A minimum of 20 students is required for this program. Interested students may also contact a local sheriff's office for more information on their programs. Due to the volunteer nature of this position, the need to hold this academy is based on local law enforcement agencies' recruiting efforts for this position.
