What is an Educational Plan and why do I need one?

The Educational Plan is an advising guide to assist students in completing their degree or certificate in a certain time period. The student will know what courses they need to take and the sequence those courses should be taken in. The Counseling Office strongly recommends students make an appointment to see an educational adviser to complete an Educational Plan in their first semester at Seminole State.

How do I make an appointment?

Call the Counseling Office at 407.708.2337 to make an appointment.  Currently, we schedule appointments only during non-registration periods.  Otherwise, all are walk-ins.  Walk-in students are seen on a first-come, first serve basis.

I want to be a Seminole State student. What do I do?

Start by visiting our Admissions Office in Student Services to fill out an application. The admissions counselors will guide you through the process. There is also a list of steps to apply and enroll on Seminole State's Admissions Web site.

I am a Seminole State student and I am going through some personal issues. Where can I go?

The Counseling Office is here to help you.  We have trained mental health counselors who assist students with personal issues, including depression, self-esteem, anxiety, grief counseling, coping, family difficulties and more.

What is a preparatory class and why am I in one?

College preparatory classes are designed to prepare students to begin college-level course work with the skills and knowledge to successfully complete college-level classes.  Students are placed in College Preparatory classes based on Computerized Placement Test (CPT) scores.

Where can I get help if I am struggling in a preparatory class?

Do I have to see a counselor/adviser to withdraw from a class?

A counselor/adviser signature is not required to withdraw from a class. Student Request For Withdrawal forms are available in the Student Services lobby.  The Withdrawal Deadline is listed for each term in the Academic Calendar.  After this deadline, the student should meet with the instructor to discuss withdrawing from a class.

What are the consequences of withdrawing from one or more classes?

Withdrawal from courses affects Financial Aid, Academic Standards of Progress and other matters.  Please carefully review all information on the back of the Student Request For Withdrawal form, available in the Student Services lobby.

What is a Degree Progress Report/Degree Audit and when should I get one?

A Degree Progress Report or Audit is a document indicating what you have completed towards graduation requirements.  Audits are generated by Seminole State’s computer system and/or by a counselor/adviser.  It is required for a Diploma Application. Students are encouraged to follow an Education Plan (see above) and to request a Degree Audit from the Counseling Department as needed, at a minimum upon completion of 30 units and 45 units, to ensure they are on track to graduate.
