Referral to area agencies

Seminole State counselors have expertise to provide therapy, however, Seminole State is an educational institution and not a mental health or substance abuse center. Problems that need more than three to five counseling sessions are referred to appropriate external agencies.

Substance abuse counseling and referral

Students needing substance abuse counseling are referred to appropriate external agencies.

Confidentiality Policy

All information disclosed within a session, as well as the fact of signing up for services, is confidential and will not be revealed to anyone outside of the Counseling and Educational Planning Office without written permission of the student, except under three conditions:

  • Where disclosure is required by law (i.e. when there is reasonable suspicion of abuse of children or elderly persons, or by court-ordered subpoena).
  • Where the student presents a serious danger of violence to another.
  • Where the student is likely to harm him/herself unless protective measures are taken.

Please know that our policy of confidentiality is rarely breached. But in the unlikely event that it is, your counselor will make every effort to let you know before doing so.
