Content Management System

A content management system (or CMS) is used to organize and facilitate collaborative content creation. In this case, it is a program that allows Seminole State College to update, maintain and publish the content of its Web site.

The content is stored in an online database and then presented to the user via a system of pre-formatted templates. This concept allows us to easily change the design of the Web site, since the design is separate from the content. It also allows for the creation of multiple versions of the same content from the same data, such as for wireless users or users with disabilities.

Benefits of a CMS include:

  • Streamlined authoring.
  • Faster turnaround time for new pages.
  • Greater site consistency.
  • Support for decentralized authoring.
  • Increased security.
  • Support for multiple delivery platforms.
