Scholarships and Financial Assistance
2008-09 Early Childhood Education Scholarship
Through the early learning coalitions of Seminole and Orange counties, scholarships are offered through Seminole State for teachers or those seeking teaching positions in the early childhood education field to assist them in attaining their CDA or A.S. degree in early childhood education.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Attend Seminole State College.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or GED.
- Have at least one year of experience working with young children in a structured setting.
- Be employed by an ELCS-funded center or family home.
- Complete 40 hours (30 hours' family) of mandatory DCF training.
- Submit three letters of recommendation (two professional references and one personal).
- Submit a signed Candidate Scholarship Agreement.

- Complete the College Placement Test or present ACT/SAT scores.
- Pass any necessary remedial classes.
- Answer the following essay questions (500 words maximum):
- Why did you choose a career in early childhood education?
- How will you use the knowledge and skills gained with an A.S. degree in early childhood education or a CDA to work with young children?

Selection Priorities
Priority will be given to applicants who:
- Received this scholarship during previous semesters.
- Hold at least a 2.5 GPA.
Scholarship Procedures
To be considered for the A.S. degree in early childhood education or CDA scholarship, all applicants must:
