- Encourage lifelong learning.
Library Resources and Services
- Full-service library facilities are located on the Sanford/Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, Oviedo and Heathrow campuses. Library resources applicable to curriculum at those sites will be found in the libraries, and in addition a variety of electronic resources shared by all students regardless of site or library hours. The Sanford/Lake Mary Campus library is the larger of the four, and has longer hours of operation.
- The library online catalog provides access to books, e-books, media, other formats and full-text articles from more than 105 electronic databases. Students who are currently registered are welcome to do research on campus or from any other Internet access point.
- Through Seminole State's virtual library, users can access a variety of tools, resources and assistance in locating information or conducting research. Assistance is available via e-mail to a librarian, video phone between campuses and instant messaging from the library blog.
- Seminole State's librarians and paraprofessional staff are available to assist students in finding and using print and electronic resources and using the Internet. Librarians also provide group instruction and individual consultation on how to develop a research strategy.
- Library information literacy skills instruction is also available to classes and individuals. Sessions taught by MLS degree librarians are important to understanding the use of the online catalog, the wide variety of resources that are available, as well as effective Internet searching. Streaming video on how to use the LINCC catalog and other research services may also be found online.
- There are more than 100,000 books, e-Books, audio/visual media and other resources to meet the needs of users for research, coursework and recreational reading in our campus libraries. There are 250 print periodical (journal and magazine) titles with backfiles, and millions of electronic periodicals available through LINCC databases.
- Personal computers for Web research are available for student use at no charge. Printing is available for a nominal fee. All Seminole State libraries are equipped with Wi-Fi and laptop computers that may be requested at the information services desks for intralibrary use.
- Seminole State's Computing and Telecommunication Services (CTS) Department maintains an open computer lab within the Sanford/Lake Mary library to support students as they complete their coursework.
- Students may use multimedia materials reserved for class support in the libraries' listening/viewing areas. Media resources are listed in the LINCC online catalog, and information services staff members are happy to assist students in using the catalog.
- Media equipment is not loaned to students or non-college groups. Students may request A/V equipment for classroom use or presentations through their course instructor, who then makes arrangements through Multimedia Technology Services (MTS).
- Partnering with other area libraries, Seminole State's library provides an interlibrary loan service. Books and periodical articles that are not part of the Seminole State Library collection may be borrowed from other libraries.
- Collegewide borrowing between all four libraries is available. Delivery to other campus sites generally takes place within 24 hours. Students, faculty and staff may check out books from the library, but periodicals are not loaned and must be used or photocopied in the library.
- Students, faculty and staff have reciprocal library borrowing privileges at all Florida state colleges and university libraries. Obtain further information at the campus library information services desks. Your current Seminole State college ID with library activation is all that is required for reciprocal borrowing privileges.
