Orientation
Seminole State's online orientation is designed to introduce new students to the College's programs and procedures. It also provides useful information about campus rules and regulations. All college credit students must complete an online orientation session at www.seminolestate.edu/orientation prior to advising and enrollment.
General Admissions
The procedure for freshmen or transfer students seeking admission to Seminole State is as follows:
- Complete an online application at www.seminolestate.edu/apply. Students may also obtain an application for admission from any Seminole State Admissions Office or download one online. Completed hard copy applications should be returned to the Admissions Office for processing. The applicant will be notified of the status of his/her application by mail.
- All first-time-in-college (FTIC) students must have current (less than two years old) ACT, Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT) or SAT scores to register for college credit courses. All FTIC degree-seeking students, and all students who register for their 12th college credit hour must meet the entry testing requirements. All FTIC students without current scores are required to take the PERT. Students presenting a College Ready Diploma (CRD), issued to Florida public high school graduates beginning in 1998, may be waived from placement testing provided they enroll in the appropriate general education coursework within two years of graduation from high school. Test scores will determine initial placement in some courses. The institution should have the scores forwarded to the Seminole State Registration and Records Department. If test scores are more than two years old, students should go to the Assessment and Testing Office and take the PERT exam (no appointment is necessary).
- Consult the College Academic Calendar section in this catalog for important admission and registration dates.
- The Admissions Office will notify students regarding orientation and registration dates.
- International students must contact the International Student Office on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus (Student Services, room A-104, or call 407.708.2041).
- Second language English speakers, whose PERT scores and/or timed writing samples reflect a need for college preparatory English, may be required to take specifically designed English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses, Adult Education ESOL courses or intensive English Language Institute courses.
- Applicants with a disability who require information about the admission process, an application for admission or any other information in an alternative format, should contact the Disability Support Services Office at 407.708.2109 or TDD/ITTY 407.708.2110.
- Students are responsible for understanding the requirements for the degree, diploma or certificate that they seek and for the admission policies and procedures published in the Seminole State Catalog.
- Furnishing false or fraudulent statements in connection with an application for admission or residency affidavit may result in disciplinary action, denial of admission, loss of financial aid and invalidation of credits or degrees earned.
- The College reserves the right to deny or rescind admission to any student whose record of behavior indicates that he or she would disrupt the orderly processes of the College's programs or would interfere with the rights and privileges of other students.
- Seminole State does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital or disability status in any of its educational programs or other programs and practices.
- Applicants who are suspended from another institution for disciplinary reasons will not be admitted until they are eligible for re-admission to the suspending institution. In accordance with Florida statutes, any student who has previously been expelled from a Florida state college or university for unlawful possession, sale or use of narcotic drugs will not be admitted to Seminole State for a period of one year from the date of expulsion. Any student who has been found guilty of campus disruption will not be admitted to Seminole State for a period of two years from the date of such finding. In exceptional cases, students may petition the Admission and Graduation Committee for further consideration. The Dean of Students should be consulted for information concerning the petition procedure.
- Students on academic suspension at another institution may not attend Seminole State for one semester. After the one-semester suspension, students may enter without petitioning.
- Students who have not been in attendance at Seminole State for three consecutive semesters or more must complete a new admission application to ensure the College has accurate directory, degree and residency documentation. Any additional information that may be required to complete the student's current degree and major will be identified.
- Seminole State College may deny credit earned by students if it is determined that they have made false, incomplete or fraudulent statements in connection with their application for admission. In determining Florida residency for tuition purposes, the burden of proof rests with the applicant.
