The Combined CJSTC Law Enforcement and Corrections Basic Dual Certification program will be terminated effective Spring 2013. Students interested in law enforcement or corrections should pursue the Florida CMS Law Enforcement Basic Recruit Program or the Traditional Correctional Basic Recruit Training Program.
This program provides students the knowledge and practical skills required by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) to be employed as a dual certified police and corrections officer. Completion of this program is required to be eligible to take the State Officer Certification Examination. Admission requirements and selection criteria may be obtained from the College's Admissions Office.

CJK0102 | Correctional Operations In this course students learn the operation of a correctional facility. Safety and health care for inmates, inmate control procedures, property and classifications procedures are learned along with bonding and release regulations. CJK0204 | Law Enforcement Cross-Over to Correctional Introduction This course introduces the CMS law enforcement officer to competencies needed to qualify as a traditional corrections officer. This course covers the criminal justice communications and interpersonal skills necessary for a CMS law enforcement officer. This includes interactions with youth offenders and the mentally or physically handicapped along with crisis intervention techniques and suicide prevention training. It also includes the history and philosophy of corrections; prisoner and correction officer rights and responsibilities; ethical and professional behavior; classification of offenses; legal terms and courtroom procedures and the use of force, search and seizure concepts. | 59 |
