This course is designed to familiarize the Interior Design student with the materials and finishes used in both residential and commercial interiors. Emphasis will be on product knowledge of floor coverings, wall coverings, paints and window treatments. Basic understanding of building construction (walls, ceilings, windows), acoustics, green design and ergonomics, furniture design, upholstery and terminology will be covered. A variety of field trips and/or guest speakers will be scheduled to enhance class lectures and give a "hands on" experience to the student. Analyzing products and comparison shopping help the student understand quality and merchandising. Lab fee required.
