Raider's Softball

Head Softball Coach Courtney Miller

Assistant Softball Coach Katie Field The 2011 season marks Courtney Miller's 17th year as head coach of the Raider fastpitch softball program. During her tenure, she has built a nationally recognized program that has compiled a 601-371-3 record and qualified for the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA)/Region VIII State Tournament for 10 straight years.

Last year, Miller's team capped one of its best seasons in school history, finishing second in the Mid-Florida Conference (MFC) and Region VIII Atlantic District Tournament, sixth in the state and 18th in the nation. Hope Bitzer, Miller's star pitcher and first baseman, was named Softball Player of the Year by the FCCAA and MFC as well as a First-Team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCAA). Bitzer also was named the MFC's Female Athlete of the Year.

Miller begins the 2011 season with an overall coaching record of 669-430-3, just 31 wins shy of her 700th career victory. She established Seminole State's fastpitch team in 1995 and has produced 123 All-Conference, 29 All-State and 16 All-American athletes for the College.

Miller's teams also excel in the classroom, with 126 players earning Academic All-Conference honors, 71 earning Academic All-State honors, and 53 earning Academic All-American honors. In 2010, the NFCA ranked her squad 13th in the nation academically, and the MFC named second baseman Natalie Beach its Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Miller is the Mid-Florida Conference chair for softball and a member of the Florida Softball Committee. She previously chaired the NJCAA Division I All-American Committee and the NFCA Coaching Staff of the Year Committee.

Before joining the Raiders, Miller served as head softball coach at St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, Minn., for three years. She guided the Huskies to the 1992 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament and a top-10 ranking in the final NCAA Division II softball poll.

Miller is a native of Jasper, Mo., and a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University, where she played softball for two seasons. She is well-versed in community college athletic program administration, having earned her A.A. degree from Crowder Junior College in Neosho, Mo. During her two years at Crowder, Miller played basketball and softball and helped lead the Roughriders to second- and fourth-place national softball finishes, respectively.

In addition to her role as head coach, Miller is a full-time professor, teaching courses in wellness, health and college success. She also serves as the athletic academic advisor for all student-athletes at Seminole State.
