Seminole State Rolls No. 8 St. Pete 9-3 (Feb. 28)

Seminole State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back Friday against St. Petersburg College, the No. 8 team in the nation. Keith Skinner went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Edwin Bonilla went 3-for-4, scoring four runs while also driving in a run to lead the offense.

Jake Cosart (3-0) received the victory, going four innings giving up only one run on three hits while striking out six. Brooks DeMontluzin and Josh Brooks combined for four scoreless innings, and Burris Warner came in to close the door, only giving up two runs on three hits.

Raiders lose in 12 innings to Polk at home (Feb. 25)

After falling behind early 2-0 in the first inning against Polk State, the Raiders came back to tie the game 2-2 with a two-RBI double from Keith Skinner in the bottom of the third inning. After three consecutive singles in the bottom of the fifth by Ahmad Chrsitian, Edwin Bonilla and Austin Hays, Skinner hit a sacrifice fly to center to give the Raiders the lead. Polk State quickly tied the game up with an RBI double. The game remained tied until the top of the 12th inning, when a leadoff triple, two singles, a double and a sacrifice fly produced three runs for Polk State, which ended up being the difference.

Alex Hagner threw 8.1 strong innings, giving up only three runs on seven hits while stiking out two batters. Drew Montero and Drue Brooks combined to shut down the ninth inning, giving up no runs or hits. Tyler Leach (0-1) received the loss, going two innings giving up three runs on six hits while walking one.

The Raiders are in action again at home Friday at 2 p.m.

Skinner continues hot month in win against South Florida (Feb. 24)

Keith Skinner

Keith Skinner went 2-for-3 Monday with a double and an RBI, continuing his hot month to start off the 2014 season. Skinner is now 18-for-40 batting (.450) this month, with 5 doubles and 2 home runs. Jansen Cosart also continued to swing well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Brooks DeMontluzin had another strong outing, going seven innings and stiking out four while only giving up two runs ( one earned).

Hays and Cosart Homer in 7-1  win vs. CCBC-Catonsville (Feb. 23)

Burris Warner (2-1) pitched for eight strong innings, stiking out four batters and leading Seminole State to the win on Sunday against Maryland's CCBC-Catonsville. The Raider offense was led by Jansen Cosart going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. Austin Hays went 3-for-4 with a home run and 3 RbIs. The two players were involved in six of the seven runs scored by the Raiders on Sunday.

Strong pitching performances by Brooks de Montluzin and Burris Warner led the way in the victory at Polk State College Wednesday night. De Montluzin pitched six innings, giving up only three hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. Warner (1-1) struck out three and allowed only one hit in three innings of work to close the door and receive the win. The offense was led by Keith Skinner, who went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Austin Hays also went 2-for-4, earning an RBI and a double.

Seminole State wins big at Sanford Stadium (Feb. 18)

Pitcher Alex Hagner (1-1) struck out 10 in four innings, receiving his first victory of the season. The offense was led by Keith Skinner, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Miguel Frias also drove in three runs with a home run in the seventh to close the door on Dundalk.

Edwin Bonilla went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Austin Hays went 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Reyni Olivero went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI, and Keith Skinner went 2-for-4 with a double.

Seminole State fell short in game two behind Justus Labigang (1-1), who threw six innings, giving up three runs while stiking out two batters. Seminole was led offensively by Austin Hays who went 3-for-4, driving in one run and scoring once.

Raiders roll in opener at EFSC (Feb. 3)

After being rained out of the first three games on the schedule, Seminole Statae opened up the 2014 season in impressive fashion on Monday at Eastern Florida State College. Seminole State jumped on top early with five runs in the first inning and contiuned to add on to their lead with seven in the second. The Raiders finished with 15 runs on 13 hits in the shortened five-inning ballgame. 

James Jean led the Raiders offensively, going 3-for-3. He was a single short of hitting for the cycle, earning a double, triple and home run while knocking in four RBIs. Ahmad Christian was 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs, and Vinnie Leuzzi was 2-for-3 also with 3 RBIs. Reyni Olivero earned three stolen bases without getting picked off, and he went 1-for-2 at the plate.

On defense, Justus Labigang (1-0) received the victory in two innings of work while striking out three batters. Jake Cosart also struck out three in his one inning of work to finish off the game.

Seminole will look to continue the success in their home opener, a rematch against Eastern Florida State College at Jack Pantelias Field this Friday at 2 p.m.
