  • Complete an Seminole State adult education application.
  • Schedule placement testing and orientation.
  • Schedule classes to meet your study needs.

Seminole State also provides an underage GED program at no cost to students who are 16 or 17 years old. Students may start the program at the beginning or midpoint of any of three terms. To be admitted, students must:

  • Complete an Seminole State Adult Education Application.
  • Submit an official copy of their high school transcripts and present proof of withdrawal from the high school they formerly attended.
  • Submit a parent/guardian-signed and notarized Seminole State Underage Consent Form.
  • Schedule placement testing and orientation.

For eligibility to take the GED exam, underage students must complete one full term of classes, pass a pre-GED test at the end of the term and obtain their instructor's approval/recommendation.

GED Testing

Seminole State provides GED test registration monthly in A-107.

The GED examination is comprised of five sub-tests. The complete battery is a primarily multiple-choice test and includes a written essay. Approximately 20 percent of the mathematics test is not multiple choice. A candidate who passes the GED test will receive a State of Florida high school diploma from the Florida State Department of Education. To register, candidates must apply in person and present:

  • A valid State of Florida driver license or a valid State of Florida I.D. card
  • A valid Social Security card
  • All applicable fees

The test costs $70 for the full battery and $14 for each re-test for social studies, science, literature or math. The retest fee for writing skills is $16. Fees are subject to change.

A minimum standard score of 410 is required to pass each test. To earn a diploma, students must pass all five sub-tests and obtain a total of 2,250 points. Test results will be mailed approximately six weeks after the completion of the exam date.

If  you do not pass the GED...

  • We recommend you attend a study center.
  • Fill out a new application to take the GED test.
  • Pay the GED test fees.

If your score is below 2250 after two tries or you did not pass three or more subtests:

  • You must attend a study center for at least three months (see the ABE/GED program above).
    or
  • Wait six months before re-testing.
