Sample Topics for Timed Writings

The topics below provide practice at the Fundamentals of Writing I (ENC 0001), Fundamentals of Writing II (ENC 0011) and English I (ENC 1101) levels. For most timed in-class writings, students are given 50 minutes to write a composition.

The writing area in each Academic Success Center (ASC) is staffed with paraprofessionals and English instructors who are ready to assist enrolled students in improving their skills and strategies in preparation for the timed writings they will be completing in their classes.  Using the topics below, enrolled students can write a timed composition and bring it to the writing area staff at an ASC to get tips and suggestions for improvement.
