Paper Assistance Guidelines for Walk-in StudentsThe English paraprofessionals and ISS's in the Academic Success Center (ASC) offer help at every stage of the writing process, from basic sentence mechanics to brainstorming and composition. In particular, the function of Seminole State's paraprofessionals and mentors is to assist students in improving and developing their own writing skills. Given this mission, ASC's paraprofessionals and ISS's are not proofreaders; rather, they ultimately aim to enable students to write and proofread their own papers. Student-writer independence and self-reliance are the philosophy and goal for Seminole State's Paper Assistance Policy. Paraprofessionals and ISS's do not focus their efforts on correcting student writers' mistakes, assuring them that they will submit a perfect paper. Instead, paraprofessionals and ISS's offer suggestions and strategies for change and improvement, which strengthen the students' abilities. They will not correct the mistakes in a paper just so a student can receive a good grade.
