Presidential Report May 17, 2010

Thank You to our Trustees

Many thanks to our Chair, Lisa Greer, for attending all three nights of Graduation.  And many thanks to Lisa, Cindy and Scott for attending Commencement on Friday, May 7th.   Also, a special thanks to our Foundation Chairman, Dave Maxon from Progress Energy who is in the audience, for presenting the Endowed Teaching Chair awards at Commencement.

Faculty Achievements

WMFE-PBS Orlando, Encore Channel 24, has offered Seminole State a regular recurring slot on a semester basis for our Television and Digital Cinema Program.  It is our understanding that we are the only College in the area with this kind of arrangement. The first show was a one-hour environmental documentary, "The Last Chance," which aired on April 29th.  Congratulations to Pat Fitzgerald, Bill Schmidt and everyone involved in this effort!

In addition to Bobbie Bell, Professor Debra Socci has also been accepted by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to attend a seminar in Brooklyn on June 20-26th.  Congratulations, Professor Socci!

Congratulations to Liz Lawson on earning her Master's Degree in Adult Education and Training from the University of Phoenix.

Congratulations to Christine Broeker, Dr. Barbara Entwistle and Dr. Christine Robinson for their presentation at the Community College Baccalaureate Association's 10th Annual International Conference in Baltimore.  The topic was "Start Smart:   A Project Management Approach to Implementing the Community College Baccalaureate."

Nursing

Seminole State's nursing graduates passed the NCLEX exam with flying colors with a passing rate of 95.65%.  In actuality, all of the students who graduated in December passed the exam; it was a student from 2001 who did not pass who kept us from getting a perfect score.  But, we still exceeded the state average of  86% for the quarter.  Congratulations to our students and outstanding nursing faculty!

Athletics

Seminole State's Golf Team qualified for nationals for the second year in a row.  Congratulations to students Fabys Barreto, Victoria Seenath, Jessica Wolchick and Kristin Galek, as well as, coach Christa Teno on this accomplishment.  The women are playing in nationals today in Daytona.
