Presidential Report March 19, 2010

Faculty Success

Congratulations to Marilyn Wells and Latoya Wells on their selection from nursing faculty throughout the United States to participate in the Quality and Safety Education in Nursing Education Consortium Institute in Washington, D.C.  The goal of this institute is to develop strategies to educate nursing students to deliver quality and safe care. 

Program Accreditation

Seminole State's Respiratory Care Program has been notified by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) that the program has received full accreditation. Eighty-six percent of the graduates successfully completed the Certified Respiratory Therapist Exam compared to the CoARC threshold of 80%.  Congratulations to the students and Mark Carey, Program Director and Michael Santiago, Clinical Director, on this achievement! 

Energy Efficiency Rebates

Next month, we will have a presentation to the Board of two energy efficient rebate checks. The FPL check for $300,000 represents efficiencies on the Sanford/Lake Mary Campus related to the ice plant and the Progress Energy check for  $37,736.71 is for efficiency measures at Altamonte. 

Partnership Center Dedication

One week from today, March 26, at 9:30 a.m., Dr. Hitt and I -- along with our Trustees -- will be dedicating The Partnership Center.  It will be an exciting day for us!  I hope that everyone will attend!     

Graduations

It's that time of year when we graduate student completers from the multitude of programs at the College. 

• GED Graduation is Wednesday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the Gym.
• Adult High School Graduation is Thursday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m., in the Gym.
• Commencement is Friday, May 7, at 8:00 p.m. in the Gym, preceded by an informal dinner at 6:30 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room.

Please let Linda know which ceremonies you will be attending.

April Board Meeting
