Please accept my thanks for all of your cards, emails, phone calls and contributions to the SCC Foundation in honor of my Mother, Elva R. McGee. The events of the past few weeks have been an amazing journey. At nearly 99 years of age, I know that she was ready to start her next adventure. However, it was very hard to let her go. The experience with the hospital staff and the Hospice nurses reinforce the role that we fulfill in our community. They were incredible!
Congratulations to faculty member, Michael Kappers, and our Digital Media students who won nearly 20 state awards at the Florida Print Awards Conference. The students will join us next month to describe their achievement.
Today, Dr. Matt Hodge, is representing SCC at the 2006 Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Atlanta. Matt is on a panel dealing with the new role for non-profit Board members. Congratulations, Matt!

The SCC Foundation is holding orientation sessions for new and current Board members on August 25 and September 8 here in the Board room. Seven new directors are joining the SCCF. If your schedule will permit, the Foundation would like for you to join them for lunch on either or both dates. Of course, you are welcome to attend the entire orientation. So far, Chris Dorworth, Dr. Charles English and Rick Lee have RSVPed. Please let Linda know if you can attend.
Lincoln Day Dinner - Friday - August 18
Rep. Alan Hayes has invited the Board and your spouse to the August 18th Lincoln Day Dinner to be held at the Orlando Marriott at Heathrow. A VIP reception begins at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m. Dress is business attire. Please let Linds know tonight if you can attend as seats are limited. So far, Dr. English and I are attending.
For many years, "Welcome Back" has been held on the first faculty-report day of the Fall Term. However, since an increasing number of employees have been unable to attend due to registration activities, we decided to try something new this year. Faculty will report back on August 23 and the students will arrive on August 28; however, a new SCC tradition will begin with a "Collegewide Convocation" on October 11. Stay tuned...
Tonight is the last call for participants to the ACCT Leadership Congress in Orlando, at the Marriott World Center, on October 11-14. The deadline for registration is August 30. Please let Linda know if you plan to attend, whether you need hotel reservations, and if you plan to bring your spouse. The Awards Luncheon is Thursday, October 12, and the Awards Dinner is Friday, October 13. It is possible to attend only those events. Our own "Seminole Sound" will perform at the Opening Session on Thursday morning and again on Thursday evening.
Linda has provided you with a calendar of upcoming events. I would like to call your attention to the CALNO meeting, Council of Local Governments in Seminole County, on September 6th, which is being hosted by SCC at 6:30 p.m., in the Board Room. If you plan to attend, please let Linda know.
Speaking of calendars, a request was made to change the November 21st Board meeting from Thanksgiving week to either earlier or later that month. The Board agreed to change the meeting to Tuesday November 14.
