Many ThanksPlease accept my thanks for all of your cards, emails, phone calls and contributions to the SCC Foundation in honor of my Mother, Elva R. McGee. The events of the past few weeks have been an amazing journey. At nearly 99 years of age, I know that she was ready to start her next adventure. However, it was very hard to let her go. The experience with the hospital staff and the Hospice nurses reinforce the role that we fulfill in our community. They were incredible! Student AchievementsCongratulations to faculty member, Michael Kappers, and our Digital Media students who won nearly 20 state awards at the Florida Print Awards Conference. The students will join us next month to describe their achievement. Staff AchievementsToday, Dr. Matt Hodge, is representing SCC at the 2006 Academy of Management Annual Meeting in Atlanta. Matt is on a panel dealing with the new role for non-profit Board members. Congratulations, Matt! Collegewide ConvocationFor many years, "Welcome Back" has been held on the first faculty-report day of the Fall Term. However, since an increasing number of employees have been unable to attend due to registration activities, we decided to try something new this year. Faculty will report back on August 23 and the students will arrive on August 28; however, a new SCC tradition will begin with a "Collegewide Convocation" on October 11. Stay tuned... ACCTTonight is the last call for participants to the ACCT Leadership Congress in Orlando, at the Marriott World Center, on October 11-14. The deadline for registration is August 30. Please let Linda know if you plan to attend, whether you need hotel reservations, and if you plan to bring your spouse.
