Presidential Report March 25, 2003March 25, 2003Kudos SCC's Veteran's Counselor, Joe Saunders, was noted in Florida Leader's "Best of Florida Schools 2003" as the best veterans counselor in the state. The magazine indicated that "At SCC, Joe Saunders doesn't just have a heart for students. He's also someone who's been in their boots - combat boots, that is." Congratulations, Joe! Congratulations to Courtney Miller and our Softball Team for their successes! Lacey Swarthout, a sophomore, pitched the first perfect game in College history on March 11. Lacey was named Honorable Mention Pitcher of the Week for her performance. She struck out 13 batters to defeat St. Johns River Community College 11-0. SCC's Raiders are currently ranked 3rd in the FCCAA State Softball poll. The men's baseball team is also ranked in the top five in the state. SCC sophomore, J.D. Bracy, has been named to the FCCAA All-State men's basketball team. Congratulations, J.D.! PBL State Competitions Once again, our students have been victorious at the annual PBL State Tournament held in Tampa last week. As a result of their outstanding performance, there were 10 first place, 14 second, 3 third, 4 fourth, and 5 fifth place winners totaling 36 awards and an additional 5 chapter awards. SCC was also recognized as the 2003 Florida PBL Chapter of the Year. Nineteen students qualified to compete at the national conference in Dallas on June 29. Our students competed against students from 24 other Florida colleges and universities. Graduations GED Graduation is scheduled for April 30. Adult High School Graduation is May 1. Commencement is May 2. Please confirm your attendance with Linda. SACS Reaffirmation Many thanks to all of those who participated in the SACS process. As you all know by now, the SACS Visiting Committee provided us with a great review and a special commendation to the Board for their support of the College. Many thanks, again, to Dr. Nelda Malm and Dr. Elaine Greenwood for their leadership. Also, special thanks to all the college staff who helped us to earn three commendations!!! |
